Journalist exposes his colleague’s story of Olympic technician’s death

According to those sources the technician “fell on several knives”. According to media reports the man whose name was Boris Avdeev was found lying in his room with multiple knife wounds the next morning after the opening ceremony.  

The source of this piece of news was the American newspaper “The Daily Currant” infamous for posting fakes frequently. Afterwards the “news” spread all over the social media.  

Only a few American journalists became suspicious and started checking the information. A USA Today sports column reporter Ryan Glasspiegel confessed that at first he did believe that piece of news as well and sent it to his colleagues for checking out and publishing, but in a two minutes time he reconsidered that order for he smelt a rat in the case. As a result of his vigilance USA Today successfully avoided publishing a fake.
