Five new records have already been set during the Sochi-2014 winter Olympic Games

Three athletes from the Netherlands, a Canadian athlete and an athlete from South Korea have become record-breakers during the winter Olympics-2014. They set new records in shirt track and speed skating events.

Yesterday a Dutch skater Jorrit Bergsma set an Olympian record in the 10000m speed skating run. He covered the distance in 12 minutes 44.45 seconds which is 14 seconds faster than the former champion’s time (we refer to Korean athlete Seung Hoon Lee, who set up the record in Vancouver).

Jorrit Bergsma is the third Dutch speed skater to set up an Olympian record is Sochi-2014. Sven Kramer succeeded in beating his own four years old record during the 5000m skate run. His new record time – 6 minutes 14.76 seconds – improved his previous achievement by 4 seconds. The third Dutch Olympic record setting athlete was Jorien ter Mors. It took her 1 minutes 53.51 seconds to complete the 1500 skating run – which also is a record.

Two more record were set by a Canadian athlete Valerie Maltais and a speed skater from South Korea Sang Hwa Lee respectively. It took the former only 1 minute 28.771 seconds to finish the 1000m run, while the latter broke the record in 500m run – she outskated the previous champion’s record by 0.02 seconds. By the way, the previous champion - Catriona Le May Doan from Canada – stayed unbeaten for 12 years.
